Ongoing Initiatives

Guadalupe Island Conservation Fund
The Guadalupe Island Conservation Fund is administered by Marinebio.org a 501 (c)(3) US nonprofit, on behalf of the west coast shark diving fleet, concerned divers, eco tour operators and people just like you.

Our goal is to provide the funds needed for projects that protect and develop the newly formed Biosphere Reserve of Isla Guadalupe. Ongoing white shark research and increasing and improving infrastructure to facilitate white shark conservation are the primary goals of this fund. The Fund also partially supports:

1. Further funding of ongoing white shark tagging and tracking research by the CICIMAR and UC Davis (2004 to present).

2. Funding of the ongoing Marine CSI-DNA tracking project (2000 to present).

3. Funding for new boat docks on the southern end of the island to support infrastructure.

4. Resource funding for Isla Guadalupe Biosphere Reserve staff and eco-rangers.

5. Long term communications systems for the island.

6. Small vessels and maintenance support for Biosphere staff.

7. Educational programs for students in Mexico with a primary focus on shark preservation.

8. Grants for Guadalupe fishing co-operative, housing, water, and educational programs.
